About Us

We need new approaches to solve humanity’s healthcare problems.

We need new approaches to solve humanity’s healthcare problems.

We need new approaches to solve humanity’s healthcare problems.

At the Center for Dynamical Biomarkers, we’re challenging traditional approaches to medicine by applying the principles of complex systems from physics, and quantitative analysis, to the human body.

Current medical approaches rely on snapshots of health markers, like a single blood pressure reading, to draw broad conclusions about the body’s state. While effective for diagnosing disease, this method neglects the fundamental question: What does "healthy" actually look like and how can we solve for it?

Consider the analogy of music: we can easily identify what makes music unpleasant, but objectively defining the common attributes of all "beautiful" music is far more difficult. The human body is similar, but with far greater consequences.

Our focus is on identifying and quantifying the exact characteristics that define a healthy body, by analyzing the signals it produces.

Innovations such as our Multiscale Entropy Analysis allow us to do this, taking physiological signals and quantifying the state of health of the underlying system—the human body—on a linear scale (i.e. from unhealthy to healthy).

Such approaches provide the foundation for treatments to focus on affecting the healthy state before symptoms of disease appear. Earlier interventions require fewer resources and technical expertise, reducing costs and barriers to care.

At the Center of Dynamical Biomarkers we aim to play a leading role in this paradigm shift: the move of medicine away from a focus on post-hoc disease management to a proactive culture of prevention and continual wellbeing, an approach that holds the promise of better health outcomes for all.
