To address the challenge for healthcare improvement around the world, we have been researching and devising innovative diagnostic instruments for personal and point-of-care use. In collaboration with HTC, one of the world's leading smartphone makers, we strive to design diagnostic instruments that can achieve the following goals:
• High diagnostic accuracy
• Light-weight and portable
• Superb user experience (ease of use), and
• Flexible connectivity to transport data to the cloud
Since August 2013, our team, Dynamical Biomarkers Group, has been participating in the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition, which aims to foster disruptive revolution in healthcare by stimulating the development of innovative personal diagnostic devices. The competition challenges contestants to develop a device under 5 pounds capable of capturing key health metrics and diagnosing a set of 12 diseases. As of December 2016, we are one of 2 teams that made it to the final round of competition. We delivered 40 Tricorder systems to the XPRIZE organizer in August 2016, these systems are being tested by consumers over a 6 month period. The grand prize winner is expected to be announced in April 2017.

Update on December 12, 2016
The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE has been extended to early 2017 to allow for a final phase of consumer testing which will take place at the Altman Clinical Translational Research Institute at the University of California San Diego.
We are excited that our team is one of the final 2. We look forward to continuing our journey in this competition for $10 million in prizes for developing a medical tricorder – a portable, wireless device that diagnoses a myriad of conditions, plus monitors five vital signs – something that has never been done before.
